COMPOST ROSTER

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPOST ROSTER VOLUNTEERS:
There are currently four black open bins and two worm
farms that need to be tended in the community garden. The big green areobin does
not need maintenance for now.
1. Worm farms:
Check underneath the blankets/cardboard to see if there is any green food left and refill with any available green material from the compost bins.

2. Compost:
TOOLS REQUIRED:

Shovel
· Garden Hose
· Compost turner
·
Knife
The 2 black bins marked “Feed Me” are the working
bins with public contributions and require volunteers to help to maintain.
a. Check the contents of the new green waste (front
bin) and use the shovel to distribute evenly into the aerobin/working
compost/worm bins and leave a thin layer of green waste on top. Remove any plastics and if necessary, chop
large bits into smaller pieces.
b. Use the metal compost aerator and thoroughly turn
the contents of each bin.
c. Cover the contents in each bin with carbon (brown
materials) such as scrunched/shredded paper, cardboard etc
d. Use the garden hose to spray water into each bin
and over the carbon material to wet down. Contents should not be sopping wet
but also not look dry
The 2 black bins marked “Full” require turning with
the spiral. No new materials need to be
added. Wet with hose if contents are
looking dry after turning.
The compost job can be strenuous and is ideally worked by two people at a time. if you need a partner contact us to find someone also on the roster you can pair up with.
